GPRS remote access mobile email - mailSpeed

"... result in the amount of data being sent through the GPRS network to be only about 10%, or less, of what it otherwise would be ..."

The mailSpeed network and remote access mobile email software is designed to increase the efficiency of data transmissions, using a series of both known and proprietary methods that together accelerate a network connection by a factor of up to 10.

This increased speed is irrespective of the type of network being used: fixed, mobile or wireless. It is clear that the slower the connection is and/or the more expensive it is to use, the great the savings will be in cash terms for the mailSpeed user.

The biggest time and money savings can be made on mobile or cellular phones of all types, even including Satellite phones. All are slow in terms of data transmission speed and expensive to a varying degree. The most frequently used standard today is GSM, with GPRS becoming more and more frequently available.

GSM - the Global Standard for Mobility - is designed specifically for voice transmission and this type of service can also be "data enabled"; as such it has a slow rate of transmission, about 9,600 bps or less depending on various conditions, such as the radio cell being connected to and the level of traffic on that cell at any given time.

To determine the level of speed and cost for this kind of connection, one can use the rule of thumb that it takes approximately 20 minutes to send 1 Mb of data over a GSM connection and the user is charged a fee per minute for the connection. By comparison, 1 Mb of data through mailSpeed using GSM is a about 2 minutes 20 seconds.

"General Packet Radio Service" is - as the name implies - a packed switched network and therefore designed specifically to send and receive packet data, at network speeds of about 54,000 bps: a newer and considerably quicker way of sending and receiving information using a mobile connection.

As with ADSL (or broadband), this is an "always on" connection. It is not billed by the minute but by the amount of data being sent and received. So with GPRS you pay as you consume - e.g. at the rate of £2.55 plus VAT for every Mb of data you send or download, making these mobile data services quite expensive.

However the good news for mailSpeed customers using General Packet Radio Services is that the efficiency of mailSpeed here is 10 to 20% better than over GSM. This generally would result in the amount of data being sent through the GPRS network to be only about 10%, or less, of what it otherwise would be!

By using a GPRS enabled phone or PC Card, with a compatible PC laptop you are always connected to internet services and you can access your email wherever you are including while traveling abroad to enable access as if you were at home.

The savings are even more dramatic on the exuberant roaming charges (which can be as high as £10 plus VAT per Mb of downloaded data) and which are considerably higher than "local" access charges.

With GPRS you can remain connected as long as you wish, as charging is based on the amount of information you send or receive, not for the time you're connected as it is with GSM.

These savings do not take into account the benefit of mailspeed's unique AutoRestore function. With AutoRestore, if connections are interrupted in mid session - a frequent occurrence on any mobile network - mailSpeed restarts sending or receiving data from the point where it stopped, not from the beginning again. This is a hugely important feature of this remote email access software.
