Save money when visiting South Africa with this Pay as you go SIM card, which includes airtime worth approx £2 which will buy some 14 minutes of local talk time. There is NO cost to receive phone calls while in South Africa and calls to both local numbers and "back home" are much less expensive than using your mobile phone abroad.

It is free to receive SMS and costs approximately GB£0.07 to send them to other South African mobile phones, and about GB£0.14 to send to international numbers.

NB: you must have an unlocked phone to use this prepaid South African SIM card. We offer SIM free phones, specially selected for their suitability for international travel.

Your SIM card is easily activated once you have arrived in South Africa. Just put the pay as you go SIM card into your unlocked dual band phone, switch on, and enter the default PIN (usually 0000 but check the pack which arrives containing your SIM card.)

Your new South African phone number is nine digits long, starting with 083, and is indicated below the barcode on the SIM card package.

Customer service can be reached by calling 173 toll free from your South African prepaid SIM.

Topping Up: Buy a voucher from one of the many authorised MTN outlets to top up your South African prepaid SIM card. Once you have done that, key in the following: *141* followed by the top-upvoucher code followed by the # key (no spaces) then press CALL (or "Send" on some phones).

You can check your account balance by calling *555#

For friends to call you, your number will start +27 (for South Africa) 83 - and the remaining digits of your South African SIM card's telephone number . To make an international call, dial either 00 or the "+" symbol and the country code (e.g. 44 for the UK) followed by the area code (minus the leading "0") and the phone number.
