Getting started: your package includes your pay as you go SIM card, a user guide, and your PIN and PUK codes - don't worry if these terms are new to you, they are explained later! But do make sure to put a note of your PIN & PUK codes somewhere safe.
Your international pay as you go SIM card comes loaded with €25 of call credit, and it is easy to top up.
Inserting the SIM card: first of all, read your phone's handbook carefully! Apart from other useful things, it will tell you how to insert the SIM card. Gently pop the SIM card out of its retaining, larger card. Avoid touching the wiring with your fingers, and carefully insert the SIM card into your phone's SIM slot. There is only 1 way to insert the card.
Make sure the phone is charged. Switch the phone on. Enter the PIN code that is supplied in your package. As soon as you see the phone display the network operator's name or logo - which will take some seconds - you are ready to start making or receiving calls.
If you enter the PIN incorrectly 3 times, the SIM card will lock and you will not be able to use it until you enter the PUK code - so you can see why it is important that you keep this somewhere safe.
Making calls: always dial using the complete international code. We strongly recommend saving numbers in your phone book in the international format, so UK phone numbers become "+44" (and drop the leading "0"). Enjoy making international phone calls while travelling abroad in the knowledge that you are saving up to 75% on roaming costs!
The exception to using the international format is when you make a call to emergency services, (where you use the number of the country you are in - many countries use 911 or 912 - ) and any "Speed Dials" - which you just dial.
When you place a call, your phone will display "please wait, calling". The phone will then ring, which you should answer normally by pushing the green "Dial" button (or "Send" on some phones). A few seconds later, you will hear the phone ringing at the number you called.
Receiving a call: this is exactly the same as with your current or previous phone - just push the green button when the phone rings. Tell your UK based friends and family to dial 0905 257 9645, and as soon as the prompts start, call your +354 number. In this way, they can call your 09 Global Roaming mobile for just 20p a minute - similar to calling a UK mobile! Read more.
The pay as you go SIM card costs €39 (+ VAT) to buy and comes with €15 of airtime, so is a real bargain.
Once you have purchased your 09 Mobile prepaid roaming SIM card, here is how you can top up.
