October - INTERNATIONAL SERVICE PROVIDES HOTELS WITH ADDITIONAL
REVENUE, CLOSES A "LOOP HOLE
"The
Operator Services division of Qwest Communications International
has signed a master agency agreement with Orate Ltd to offer their
services to hotels in Europe and beyond.
Michael
Williams, of Qwest's Operators Services division, explained that
"many Americans make collect calls - or reverse the charges,
as you call it in the UK - or use an 0800 number to call home
via a calling card. On both types of calls, hotels earn little
or nothing. We offer a high quality service, via an 0800 number
to our US based call centre, and the hotel guest has several choices
of how to pay. The key difference is that the hotel receives a
payment on calls made in this way."
Acknowledging
that the number of US travellers has declined since the terrible
events of 11th September, Williams is quick to point out that
their international call revenue has quickly recovered - perhaps
in part because those who travel feel a greater need to reassure
friends and family that they have arrived safely.
Richard
Atkins, Managing Director of Ipswich based Orate, enthused "this
is the easiest service to sell: it costs the hotel little or nothing
to participate, Qwest even provides the in-room advertising material
to tell visiting Americans about the service, and the hotel receives
money, where previously they missed out. No wonder we are signing
up agents in different countries, and gaining hotel contracts."
Qwest
Communications International, Inc: (quoted on the New York Stock
Exchange under "Q") has revenues of US$19 billion and
serves more than 30 million customers in the U.S. and abroad,
and is a leader in Internet-based data, voice, image and multimedia
communications.
