DEALER
AND CLIENT BENEFIT FROM NEW SMS SCHEME
06 DEC 2000
UK
resellers and clients are set to benefit from short message service
(SMS) savings in a deal offered by international telecoms consultants,
Orate Limited.
SMS
is big business. More than 9 billion SMS were sent worldwide in
August this year alone - not only by trendy youngsters but companies
using the service instead of paging. By the end of the year the
figure could be 15 billion. Japan sends a third of these messages
and Europe and the Middle East each send a quarter.
In
Europe, Germany leads with 1 billion SMS, followed by GB with
560 million. France and Italy both exceed 500 million. The typical
cost in the UK is 10p per message.
Orate's
scheme, using the German 'xQuix service, gives resellers the
opportunity to offer clients a saving on messages to mobiles and
at the same time make a margin for themselves.
Messages
are sent to the mobile from the clients' computer by e-mail and
a simple call data record (CDR) is provided for the reseller's
own monthly billing.
