But though there are a lot of new features in the Nokia 8850, we never develop new technology for its own sake, but in order to make it easier for you to communicate.

Just call out a name, and the Nokia 8850 places the call for you. You can save 8 names in the Nokia 8850 to be activated for voice dialling. Once the name and number are saved, you activate voice dialling with a long press on the "names" key. Say a name and the Nokia 8850 starts dialling, confirming your choice by repeating it and showing the name and number on the display.

With the Nokia 8850 you can include pictures in your short messages. There are several default designs already installed in the Nokia 8850, all of which are replaceable.

Predictive text input makes it fast and easy to write messages on the keypad of the Nokia 8850. The phone contains a built-in dictionary, with support for over ten major European languages. Each time you press a key the Nokia 8850 compares the word you have written so far with the words in the database and selects the most likely word. So you can write by pressing one key per letter, instead of two or three as with an ordinary keypad. If there are several possible words, you choose a new one by pressing the star key. You can input new words and names into the database.

The Nokia 8850 has an infrared link for wireless communication with a compatible Nokia phone or a compatible PC or printer. And the Nokia 8850 supports standard communications protocols. You can transfer, e.g. phone numbers with the infrared link between compatible phones. You can download new phone numbers and ringing tones over the air. And the Nokia 8850 has a TTML browser, so you can receive new menu items to your phone making it easy to access services from the operator.

Variation in operation times will occur depending on SIM card, network settings and usage. Talk time is reduced by 5% if Enhanced Full Rate is active, and increased by up to 30% if Half Rate is active.
