With an estimated 100 laptops being stolen every day in the UK, and a staggering 1.3 million phones being taken every year, Orate ltd has set up a website called computer-backup to help people make free 2Gb backups of their computer (laptop or desktop), as well as free backups of their mobile phones.
"It can be a nightmare" says Richard Atkins, director at Orate ltd in Ipswich. "All too often, crucial data is held on a laptop, and it can take hours on end to re-establish your mobile phone's address book."
"We even have software which will track a stolen laptop, as well as backup software for DVDs, iPods and PDAs."
