Regular overseas travellers can now talk more for less thanks to a new money saving mobile phone package from UK telecommunications consultants, Orate.
Their one-stop, three-step service claims significant cost cuts for so-called 'roamers' - people using mobile phones to make and receive calls abroad, often at punitive prices.
The package includes: prepaid GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications, the world's leading wireless digital technology) SIM cards for the country or countries you are travelling to, a neat little adapter to enable your phone to hold 2 of the SIM cards at once and a free standard account with a web based communications centre to give you a unique 'follow-me' number service.
Prepaid or "pay as you go" SIMs ensure calls inside the chosen countries are immediately much cheaper than roaming calls. Calling back to home cost less and, invariably, there are no charges to receive calls.
A dual or tri band mobile is essential and Orate are happy to advise on a wide range of suitable makes and models including Ericsson, Motorola and Nokia.
The adapter, aptly named SIMpal, fits in the back of the phone and allows you to alternate or cycle between SIM cards to get the best and cheapest service wherever you are.
Completing Orate's package, the web based service will, on your instruction, direct the call to wherever you are in the world, on whatever number - work, home or mobile. Of course, if you prefer privacy, a message service obliges.
Richard Atkins, Orate's MD explains how he came up with the package. "Having been involved in international business generally and telecommunications in particular, for several years, I have paid my fair share of roaming costs. So I thought, 'there must be another way.' And what we now offer is 'it'!"
The service is available via the internet at www.orate.co.uk
