Telephone area codes around the world
The "ITU" - the International Telecommunication Union, an organisation within the United Nations system - maintains databases of all the area codes. They have also implemented an international numbering plan, with the world divided into 9 areas, with a general rule that all countries in an area start with the same "regional" digit:
